David Wells
I don't like the Red Sox or Yankees but I couldn't help root for the Yankees a little bit on the sunday night season opener. I wasn't sure what to think of David Wells coming to San Diego last season, but I liked everything I saw about him and wanted to see him return this season. I understand the majority of athletes these days are going to go for the higher salary but Wells still disappointed me in signing with Boston. Teams like Boston, New York, Chicago, L.A., etc. are willing to spend the big bucks and offer more years for older players, but I like the Padres thinking in not wanting to overpay or overextend Wells's contract. The Padres made a nice offer, but suppose they did offer what Boston did and then Wells has a season ending injury at the start of the year and ends up collecting an easy check. It was to risky to sign him to a long term deal, and if he'd rather pitch in Boston then finish his career in San Diego let him, I hope he has a bad year but let him. :lol

I agree, Wells is all about the bucks. I would have liked for him to resign, but it never happened. So for now...Curse him!

Re: David Wells
My dad was born and raised in NY, so I have some respect for the Yanks. As for as Boston, love everything about the city, hate the Sox. Can't think of any other team I hate as much.

Re: David Wells
I dont think the issue was as black&white about money as it seemed. Wells wanted to re-sign with the Padres, and the RedSox didnt sign him for all that much more than the Padres were willing to pay. The problem was with Wells' judgement in letting his wife handle the representation and negotiating. Not sure why Wells didnt have a normal agent, if he had fired him or what, but from what I understand KT and Mrs Wells had reached an agreement on a contract. When it came time to sign she asked for more ($100k in the form of additional signing bonus from what I remember) and it annoyed the hell out of KT who basically said fuggetaboutit. Im sure KT was already annoyed and edgey at being forced to deal with Mrs Wells to beging with. Essentually though it boiled down to Wells not signing over KT sticking to his principals and the uncoolness of Mrs Wells throwing in last minute demands. It still seems stupid that $100k made the difference. I sure would love to have seen Wellsy return as a starter this season.

Re: David Wells
Then Wells is even more of an idiot for letting his wife be his agent. The guy was finally home for the first time in his career and could have finished it here. Good luck in Boston that's all I can say lol
