can you recommend us some phrases to replace "I think", "I believe".
I'd like to answer this in two steps.
1) In particularly formal writing, it is not common to use the first person ("I"). Instead, the third person ("he", "she", "the author") is used. Instead of reading "I think that apples taste good", for example, you would read "The author think that apples taste good". This sounds strange, I admit, but it's a crazy world out there.
For the above reason, I would strongly recommend for those of you that feel fairly comfortable writing in English to use the third person. It is far more elegant and emanates a touch of that "I am better than you" that we so love in the academic world. :-)
For students that have a difficult time writing in English, this is not a challenge I would recommend facing yet (i.e. it's fine-tuning, not basics), so please print out the above tip and re-read it in a few months!
2) "I think" , "I believe"
