New Interview from TSM
DEE SNIDER's Son Talks About His Band BLAZED And VH1 'Sniders' Reality Show - July 31, 2005

TSM had the chance to chat with Jesse Blaze Snider once more, Check what's new with him and BLAZED!

1) Hey, Jesse! Its been a while since we were able to catch up, can you tell us what's been keeping you busy?

Well, a lot of things really. First and foremost we finished recording and have self produced our first Cd release - BLAZED: Now the Party Starts! EP. And that was certainly a process. Since then we've been shopping the CD around to management mostly and now we're starting to get some interest from record companies. We got one from Greece who seem pretty serious. And we've been playing shows, that keep getting bigger and bigger with each one. So all the band stuff is going slow but steady and then personally I've been up to a few different things.

I'm hosting this online Music Video Countdown show for AOLMusic.com, which is just starting to get it's feet off the ground. It's a completely interactive show available anytime, to anyone at AOLMusic.com counting down the top 11 most downloaded videos of the day. Hopefully, that will help us turn on some new BLAZED fans.

Plus, I'm getting closer to living a dream, I've got a two issue Punisher comic book script that I wrote over at Marvel comics and I'm working with Marvel Editor Axel Alonso at fixing it up a bit with hopes of getting it published, or it getting me offered some other gig writing some comics for the company. I'm a huge fan of comics and I read a shit load and writing them has always been my dream, so I'm pretty excited about that.

2) BLAZED is really taking off, can you describe your sound for our readers? What is the typical fan in store for when they see you perform live?

Well, the music is entertaining and motivational. It is designed to be understood by all, not just the person who wrote it. It's fast it's hard, it's cool and it's fun. A very difficult balance to maintain, but we pull it off nicely. I usually say it's a mix of Punk and Metal which it is, but when it comes down to it, it's just Rock n Roll. Fun, entertaining, have a good time, throw your fist, scream a long, rock your socks off, Rock n Roll.

The live show consist of me running all over the stage wearing things most people would make fun of you for, like chaps and spandex and huge boots and whatever I happen to feel like that day. We usually like to rock harder then anyone for a half an hour set the stage on fire and then leave it to the next band to top or songs and show.

3) Who are your band mates, and how long have you known/worked with them?

We got Benjamin Clapp on Drums and he has such a unique drumming style, I'm always getting complimented on his playing, he really adds a great deal to the sound of any song, I think we might fall a lot harder into many other sounds if he weren't with me. He's just fucking awesome.

Then are newest addition is Mike "The Godfather" Clementi who is playing Bass, but we've toyed with the idea of playing as a five piece and sometime we do. When we do he plays rhythm and is just solid as a rock either way. He's a real professional and a great showmen. Happy to have him in the band.

Finally we have Omar "O.Z." Zerrei at lead guitar and what can I say, the kid loves to play. He just gets lost in that guitar and has studied all the greats and really does things you don't see a lot of lead players doing. Challenging stuff and well played. He's been with me now for a little over two years.

4) Sad news about your former drummer,Kris Dalene. Can you give some insight as to his passing?

Well, we were coming home from a gig in Kentucky and it was a long drive 16 hours with no sleep and shortly after he dropped me off at my house, he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed ito a tree. After that BLAZED took some time off.

5)Obviously, you have GREAT musical influence around you, how does that play into the way you approach performing?

Well, my father is the greatest fucking performer alive. Or at least the greatest I've ever seen. And I literally take notes at every show. I am most certainly a far better performer than most just from watching him all those years. I still need to perfect my own performance, but it's a great thing to have such a great teacher so close by, I'm really extra lucky in that way.

6) Do you find it hard to break through the current pop scene trends that are influencing radio and TV?

Yes and no. Yes, I think it is difficult, but I designed the music to do just that. Well, I didn't really design it that way, but it just so happens that forceful confident style of music is really the only kind of statement that will scream loud enough to make people look our way without also totally turning them off or freaking them out at the same time like say, Manson or Slipknot. It helps that I'm not a scary looking frontman. I think that are music is exactly what the world needs to right the major unbalance of pop and hip hop. And we're gonna break in, whether it's the last thing I do.

7)Can you tell us a bit about the reality show that Vh1 has done on you and your family(Meet The Sniders), for those of us that were not aware of it?

It follows the Snider family as we go on a small Twisted Sister reunion tour. The response has been pretty amazing, people are so shocked that we're a loving family, but my family doesn't get it. We figured people would think we're boring. We really don't have any problems. We don't fight, we hang out together, we like each other, forget love, but REALLY like each other and I guess there isn't that much of that on TV, cause people seem to have taken to it.

8) Do you think rock/metal is making a slow come-back here in the states, as opposed to the pop that has taken over the airwaves?

NO, NOT AT ALL. But BLAZED is going to change that.

9)What are your expectations of fame? What do you wish to achieve?

I just want my music heard and enjoyed by everybody in the world and the respect that goes with people liking the things that you've done. The respect that comes from making someone happy, from making them understand, from entertaining them. I've seen the fame thing first hand and I'm not interested in it, although it will come with the thing I am interested in, which is the respect. I've always appreciated that. As far as an achievement goes, I have plenty of things I'd like to achieve, but first things first, let just turn the world of music on it's ear and make way for some Rock and Roll to get back into the spot light.

10) Finally Jesse, how can the fans get a taste of BLAZED? Are there any current show dates or tours in the works?

We are working on getting some shows right now, as of now cause of all our busy schedules we don't have any gigs lined up, but come September we should be out again. In the meantime, I recommend you get BLAZED, by checking out the EP! I don't care what your preconceived notions of me are, or my father, just give it a listen. If you like it awesome, if you don't don't bother hating it, it won't change my mind or my goals instead, find something that you do like and fucking LOVE IT! Oh and you can check out samples from the whole EP and older demos at www.BLAZEDRocks.com/downloads.html enjoy! Thanks for the interview guys. =)
